Residencies 

Essential information

For whom

  • Professional artists, curators and writers
  • Regardless of gender or region
  • Established, mid-career or emerging practice
  • Minimum age: 25 at the start of the residency
  • Artist duo’s may apply as well
  • Curator / artist duo’s may apply as well
  • Residents may be accompanied by a partner

Disciplines

Visual art, curating, art critique, art theory, artistic research, sculpture, media art, music, literature, textile, graphic design, architecture, drawing & painting.

Duration

  • 1 week – 3 months, unless stated otherwise in the Open Call

Residencies may take place from

  • February – June
  • September – November

Available Fellowships and Stipends

Applicants can indicate in their application form wether they’d like to be considered for a fellowship and/or stipend during their residency. For more information, please consult our page on fellowship grants and stipends.

Application Procedure

  1. Download the appropriate application form and carefully read the instructions.
  2. Complete the application form in either Dutch or English, and attach the required documents. Don’t forget to sign the form as well.
  3. Send it digitally by WeTransfer to: r.vangerven@seafoundation.eu  
  4. Pay the € 30,- administration fee.
  5. After we have received your complete application form and required documents, as well as the administration fee, we will sent you a verification by email.
  6. After we have received all the applications, our jury will begin the assessment procedure. We will contact you by email as soon as we have to results of your application.
  7. If you are selected for a residency, you will receive an invoice from SEA Foundation, indicating the amount to be paid in full. Payment should be made no later than 30 days from the date of the invoice.

For Artists

To apply for a residency, download and fill in the Application form for artists. Please take note that incomplete forms will not be considered. Please provide all of the required documents listed below in .pdf:

  1. Your CV or resume (max 2 pages), including the contact details for 2 supporting references, and a selfie in your studio.
  2. Your artist statement and an introduction to your work (max 400 words).
  3. An outline of the critical context of your practice (max 400 words).
  4. A description in which you argue how a residency at SEA Foundation will support the development of your work.
  5. About 5 – 10 examples of works (images max 500 KB each in .jpg) or url’s to video works, created in the last 4 years. Please provide the details or links for each image in a separate document (title of work, date executed, media and dimensions).
  6. Details of any forthcoming projects.
  7. Project/research proposal (max 500 words).

A €30,- application fee is required

  • Credit card (use donation button)
  • PayPal (see application form)
  • Direct debit into the account mentioned below.

For curators and writers

To apply, download and fill in the Application form for curators and writers. Please take note that incomplete forms will not be considered. Please provide all of the required documents listed below in .pdf:

  1. Your CV and portfolio (max. 10 pages), including a list of exhibitions, the contact details for 2 supporting references, and other relevant information.
  2. A description of the residency project, including an anticipated schedule (max 3000 words).
  3. Your letter of motivation (max. 300 words).
  4. Selfie at work (.jpg).
  5. Details of any forthcoming projects.

A €30,- application fee is required

  • Direct debit into the account mentioned below.

Visa for Non-EU applicants

For visa and external funding, SEA foundation will provide a letter of invitation when you have been accepted to the AiR Tilburg programme. We will do our utmost best to provide you with support during your visum process, should this be required. However, it should also be noted that SEA foundation does not carry the final responsibility for your visa administration or visa obtainment. This is still your own responsibility. We therefore expect that our accepted applicants are able to adequately express themselves in both verbal and written English.
