Collage for resistance

“We created this videocollage based on experiences of creation and collective, collaborative and feminist action. Through feminist action we shape ourselves as a collective body through performance, through the body; a body that appears and pretends to disappear, while leaving a trace, an insistent reverberation that we can’t stop hearing, perceiving. Collectively we raise our voice; that subalternised, historically denied voice, we hack it until it sounds, to demand fundamental rights, to fight against historical and current violences, to demand the right to appear in the public space understood as a battlefield, as a space that is not our own, and therefore, it is a space to reclaim. We appear and declare that we have the right to have a voice, to enunciate ourselves individually and collectively, to act and inhabit that space from our own languages, even if risk and punishment threaten. 

The premise for this reflection/action is ‘voice’, and for us, voice is not only words, phonemes, sounds, but voice is action; it is the body that activates voice, and just as voices are collectivised, so are bodies collectivised, embodying a polyphonic action. A collaborative polyphony that opens up spaces for action, spaces for speaking, for listening, for battle in the public space that expands from the street and cement to multiple spheres of our lives, including this digital network today. This is how we dispute these battlefields of appearing, as glitches of collectivities articulated in networks that resist in this liminal space, generating cracks, drawing fissures until we can appear, until we can speak, until we can exist.”

About LASTESIS

LASTESIS is an artistic, interdisciplinary and feminist collective from Valparaíso, Chile, featuring Daffne Valdés Vargas and Sibila Sotomayor Van Rysseghem. They are dedicated to spreading feminist theses and demands through performance and video performance, combining performing, sound and visual arts with poetry and social sciences. They have created multiple performances, including Canciones para cocinar (2023), RESISTENCIA (2021) and un violador en tu camino (2019), replicated in more than 50 countries. They have also published multiple writings, including, Quemar el miedo (Planeta, 2021) translated into Norwegian (Camino, 2024), English (Verso, 2023), Turkish (Otonom Yayincilik, 2023), Italian (Capovolte, 2022) and German (S. Fisher, 2021). They have received several awards, including the recognition by TIME magazine in The 2020 TIME100, TIME’s list of the world’s most influential people.

Collage para la resistencia

“Creamos este videocollage en base a experiencias de creación y acción colectiva, colaborativa y feminista. En la acción feminista nos conformamos como cuerpo colectivo a partir de la performance, a partir del cuerpo; un cuerpo que aparece y simula desaparecer, mientras deja una huella, una reverberación insistente que no podemos dejar de oír, de percibir. En colectividad alzamos la voz; esa voz subalternizada, históricamente negada, la hackeamos hasta sonar, para exigir derechos fundamentales, para luchar contra las violencias históricas y actuales, para demandar el derecho a aparecer en el espacio público entendido como un campo de batalla, como un espacio no propio, y por ende, un espacio a reclamar. Aparecemos y declaramos que tenemos derecho a voz, a enunciarnos individual y colectivamente, a accionar y habitar ese espacio desde nuestros propios lenguajes, aunque el riesgo y castigo amenace. 

La premisa para esta reflexión/acción es ‘la voz’, y para nosotras, la voz no es sólo palabra, fonemas, sonidos, sino que la voz es acción; es el cuerpo que acciona la voz, y así como se colectivizan las voces, también se colectivizan los cuerpos, encarnando una acción polifónica. Una polifonía colaborativa que se abre espacios de acción, espacios de habla, de escucha, de lucha en el espacio público que de la calle y cemento se expande a múltiples esferas de nuestras vidas, incluida hoy esta red digital. Así disputamos estos campos de batalla de apariciones, como glitches de colectividades articuladas en redes que resisten en ese espacio liminal, generando crackeos, dibujando grietas hasta poder aparecer, hasta poder hablar, hasta poder existir.”

Colectivo artístico, interdisciplinario y feminista de Valparaíso, Chile, compuesto por Daffne Valdés Vargas y Sibila Sotomayor Van Rysseghem. Se dedican a difundir tesis y demandas feministas a través de la performance y la videoperformance, combinando artes escénicas, sonoras y visuales con la poesía y las ciencias sociales.
