Worlds Away
Michel Langevin founding member of the legendary band Voivod , musician and visual artist. Born in Kenogami, he lives and works in Montreal, Canada.
Michel ‘Away’ Langevin (48) was born under the sign of Gemini, which seems apt for someone who is consistently described as down to earth but whose art is revered for being so far out. He is the drummer and founding member of the legendary Voivod who began touring the globe in the mid-Eighties and hasn’t stopped yet, and an artist who likes nothing more than to create in the splendid isolation of his studio. These contradictions are alive and well in his art, where ancient history collides with the future, aliens meet archetypes, and insects share a tender embrace against a backdrop of warheads. Those spidery lines, those imploring sfares, the astronomical symbols, the phantasmagoric landscapes, the alien nations, and the alienation itself: you can tell Michel’s work from a million light years away. Now for the first time shown in this unique exhibition, Langevin’s early sketches, pencil or inkt work on paper and his avant-garde digital illustrations. The exhibition ‘Worlds Away’ will run at SEA’s Project Space Tilburg until 6th of May 2012.
