Collaboration
Connecting Brabant to Finland
SEA Foundation visits Finland from 3 – 24 August 2020. The aim is to gain up-to-date knowledge about the art scene in Finland and research the opportunities for exchanges between the South of the Netherlands and the Southern provinces of Finland. During our visit, which is a follow-up from encounters 2019 in Helsinki, Tampere, and Turku, meetings and visits are scheduled with artists, curators, artist studio providers, museums, artists run spaces, and funders. The SEA Foundation will be a participant in RAW Relational Art Week at the invitation of Myymälä2. SEA Foundation’s working visit in Finland is supported by Saastamoinen Foundation and Mondriaan Fund.
RAW Relational Art Week
RAW started in 2019 and it is a part of Myymälä2’s yearly program. This year’s concept revolves around the challenge of sparing energy in an urban context. During one week the day-to-day operations and the program is carried out without the use of electricity. Entering the space, the public will be gently involved in this experiment.
The program does not pretend to solve the emergency related to waste of energy and its negative impact on the environment, nor does it pretend to set an example for others. It is an attempt to delve into the contradictions of the human condition in an interesting and sometimes hilarious or absurd frame. In absence of phones, electronic cameras, and other recording devices generating images through electricity, Myymälä2 has invited selected artists to document the program daily through drawing and painting: Pedro Aibéo, Panos Balomenos, and Shubhangi Singh. Edwina Goldstone and Serena Morina present their works on the Process Wall.
