Time for reflection!

The urgency of climate change and the awareness of dwindling resources affect more and more people. The unbridled exploitation of natural resources by a select few, and the widespread adoption on fake truths, has placed a vast number of people in precarious conditions, and it is jeopardising both individual and collective futures. Grave conflicts are still taking place. Wars in Ukraine, Gaza, the western Sahel and the Horn of Africa have caused genocide, massive destruction and inhumane suffering. In addition, there are global divisions, characterized by religious, historical and cultural disagreements that incite deep hatred amongst people. Furthermore, the pervasive global influence of intangible digital entities guided by profit-oriented algorithms that dominate daily life deserve critical and unquivering commenting.

The Earth’s potential to restore a harmonious, symbiotic balance remains uncertain and stretches beyond the limits of imagination. At SEA Foundation, we are dedicated to jointly tending and nurturing the soil of comprehension, embracing responsibility in solidarity through acts of care. Instead of seeking harsh truths and conclusive solutions to global challenges, our focus is on unraveling connections at a human scale through the convergence of art and sustainability.

In 2023, we embarked on the third year of our enduring sustainability research project, concentrating on Fold #07, Re-imagining, followed by Fold #08, Solidarity, and concluding with Fold #09, Empowerment. Our explorations were made possible by generous funding and the support of our visitors, neighbors, donors, family, and friends – both near and far. Gratitude fills us for the collaborative endeavors and encounters with artists, curators, writers, researchers, and partners. Thank you.

As we extend our wishes for peace, equality, and education for all, our relentless pursuit is fueled by the hope that mutual understanding and solidarity will continue to inspire us.

We rely on your support too and we are pleased to announce that the Tilburg City Council and Mondriaanfonds will also provide financial backing for our 2024 program.

We are closing our offices and team meetings from 19.12.23 until 20.01.2024. Hertta Kiiski’s exhibition On the other side of the Mirror can be viewed by any passer by in our street.
